HESI exam prep for nursing students
HESI exams are school-administered checkpoints. Prepare with targeted practice, not a public mock board.
HESI exams (from Elsevier) are used by many nursing programs as specialty or exit assessments. They are not the NCLEX, but they use similar nursing judgment: can you apply content under a timer and avoid unsafe choices. Certifia is not affiliated with Elsevier. We offer independent practice, including a free HESI sample after you create an account, and a larger Pro bank for students who need more volume.
What a HESI exam evaluates
Programs use HESI to see whether you can move content from lecture into item format before a course final or graduation. Expect pharmacology, adult health, maternal-child, and fundamentals-style safety. The score report your school sees is their tool. Your job is to arrive having already missed those items in practice, not for the first time on the school exam.
How to prepare
Ask your faculty which specialty you are sitting and study that cluster first. Then mix in the topics you historically miss. Do timed sets in the last week so you are not surprised by pace. Review every rationale as a rule: what finding would change the answer. Do not treat HESI prep as a second NCLEX until your school says the exit exam is the current goal.
Important study areas
Med-surg complications, dosage safety, infection control, and maternal-child emergencies appear across versions. If your course just finished cardiac or obstetrics, assume those stems will be written to the level of a new graduate, not a specialist.
How Certifia supports HESI prep
A free account can access the HESI sample pool. Pro unlocks the full HESI bank, timed mode, and readiness-style sets inside the signed-in product. This hub does not start a guest exam and does not display production questions.
Frequently asked questions
Is Certifia affiliated with Elsevier or HESI?
No. Certifia is an independent study platform and is not endorsed by Elsevier.
Can I take my school’s HESI on Certifia?
No. School exams are administered by your program. Certifia is extra practice so those items feel familiar.
Is the HESI the same as the NCLEX?
No. Both use nursing judgment, but HESI is a program assessment. Use HESI practice for school checkpoints and NCLEX practice when you are targeting licensure.
